Leave No Trace Sizzles in Vagrancy Victory

Leave No Trace | Coglianese

A Grade I-winning juvenile at Saratoga, Leave No Trace picked up her second consecutive victory of the season in Saturday's GIII Vagrancy S.

Stalking Beguine (Gun Runner) from second through fractions of :22.24 and :44.72, Jose Lezcano called on his charge for more in the lane and she responded, collaring Beguine entering the final furlong. The 8-1 chance took over from there and held the favored California invader Big Pond, making her first start for Bill Mott, safe.

Leave No Trace, winner of the 2022 GI Spinaway S., ended a seven-race losing streak with a win in a local optional claimer last time Mar. 17.

“The allowance race she won in her last start kept her at the races rather than in the breeding shed,” winning trainer Phil Serpe said. “I thought this was the right group of fillies that if she could beat this group it would get her to the next level. There's going to be tougher horses ahead for sure, but she did it right today. I thought she was impressive, and it will get her to the next spot.”

Pedigree Notes:
Leave No Trace is one of two graded winners for young sire Outwork. Tanquerray, a four-time winner, is also responsible for the 2-year-old colt Gotanotiontodrink (Notional), a yearling colt by Notional and an Olympiad filly of this year. Tanquerray brought just $2,000 from William A. Nicks in foal to Outwork at the 2021 FTKFEB sale.
